Transfer Synchronization in Transit Networks

A comprehensive stochastic and mixed-integer programming framework for synchronizing transfers across a bus network, with a Lagrangian-based heuristic solution method.

Doctoral research at the University of Toronto. I developed a two-stage stochastic mixed-integer program capturing variability in passenger walking times between stops, bus running times, dwell times and demand, then a mixed-integer linear timetable-synchronization model incorporating dwell-time determination and vehicle-capacity limits, and a Lagrangian-based heuristic to solve them at scale.
